Literally spent like 3 hours on this last night before bed. Came back to it today with fresh eyes and cut the two off immediately. I expected a certain pattern to work but it needed a few adaptations to deal with the multiple filling slots. Checkerboards are hard.
This wasn't as bad as I remember it being. Once I figured out a particular thing I went from not being able to get to the exit to 6 off and then had to optimize a few things.
Some neat and well hidden classic tricks in here.
