Got it straight... For me the key was to spot immediately that only one way to go can work, and I optimized it on the go for a direct winning (as I used undo, make it 2 or 3 tries). 
So, one hint from my side: it's a puzzle that can be solved before to start by studying a bit. :)

A few quick tries later and I beat it fast enough to demote it to Masters. Great puzzle though!

I couldn't improve on 2 off.
Edit: After a few more weeks I got it, the correct path didn't seem intuitive and the more obvious path was not correct.
